Condition:
Poplar and white cedar secondaries, top is slightly warped; lock replaced; wear to tambour slide.

Fine American Federal Wash Stand possibly Duncan Phyfe or one of his contemporaries, New York, early 19th century, figured mahogany with poplar secondary, top with tall backsplash and three openings with tin sheet metal pan, false frieze drawers over a single door and short drawer, reeded legs and original brass feet, 42-1/4 x 26-1/4 x 13-1/4 in., scattered cracks, one repair to top, refinished, break and repair to door at one hinge, minor surface wear and fading, stains, cracks, minor repairs, some replaced brass pulls, with Chinese famille rose basin, central figure on qilin with attendant holding canopy, 19th century, 4 x 11-3/4 in., interior accretion, rim with chips and fritting, (two pieces)

Southern School mid-19th c. "David Franklin McCrary (1812-1885)" and his wife "Elizabeth Cowan Lowry McCrary (1826-1901)" each oil on canvas affixed to masonite unsigned 28 in. x 23 in. oval and 34 in. x 26 in. oval respectively giltwood frames. Provenance: Descended in the McCrary family. Note: David Franklin McCrary is most noted as the builder of Magnolia Hall Greensboro Alabama. He and his wife Elizabeth Lowry were married May 9 1842 in Green County and later resided in Birmingham. A painting exists listed in the Smithsonian archives of Mrs. McCrary possibly by William Frye or Nicola Marschall. This portrait pair too bears a striking resemblance to the style of portraiture practiced by Frye.

Portrait of a Man with a Pipe and Match, said to be John Duncan (Scotland, 1708-1768) in 1751, inscribed verso lining "James Duncan 1751 born in the year 1708", oil on canvas, 14-3/8 x 11-3/4 in.; wood frame with velvet liner, 21-5/8 x 19 in.
Note: Interestingly, the Duncan Family, including Hugh Duncan and others, immigrated to America in 1790 and settled in the Pendleton District, South Carolina in what is now Anderson County. This painting was sold out of a South Carolina auction house in April 2021. Old, stenciled numbers "1181" and "624" are stamped verso the stretcher suggesting an early 20th century auction item.
